Logical Thinking
Logical Thinking is part of a group of basic skills that's not a magical process or genetically passed on from one generation to the next, it is a learnt skill / mental process.Logical thinking is the process of using your mind to consider something carefully and systematically work out the solution to a problem. Analytical thinking on the other hand is the abstract separation of a whole into its separate parts in order to study the parts and their relations to one another.
These processes are used by most on a minute by minute basis without conciously thinking about it - as you are walking down a street wanting to cross it your brain is assessing your environment looking for a pedestrian crossing, looking left and right assessing the speed and frequency of the cars travelling on the road, determining what a safe distance would be for you to cross over caculating your ability and speed vs what you need to achieve and making the best choice i.e. crossing the road there and then or walking further along the road until you find a pedestrian crossing to do so safely.
There are instances where we are deliberately using our logic to solve problems at work and at home and it is here where the benefit of training the brain to work through logical puzzles can have the most effect. One of my favourite brands is Thinkfun which sums it up with their values:
