Concentration and observation skills

Observation and concentration are dependent upon one another: The more you concentrate and observe, the more knowledge you gain — and the more knowledge you gain, the better your concentration and observation skills.

A distinction between paying attention and concentration should be made as paying attention is a body function and can be fleeting. Attention usually shifts quickly from one object to the next. A child should be taught to focus and keep his attention focussed on one object for some length of time. When a child focuses his attention for any length of time we refer to it as concentration.

Before concentration can be turned into learning processes the child need to be taught to observe or become aware of objects through one of the senses (Usually through hearing or seeing) and identifying or interpreting what he has observed.
